At the age of 28, Mind Carnival's drummer has 18 years of drumming under his belt.  Darren White started taking lessons at the age of 10 under Gary Ferrell—who has also been a mentor for a previous drummer of the Saturday Night Live band.  While a sophomore in high school, he began developing his techniques with lessons from Dr. Mike Sekelsky at Central Missouri State University.  The first two years of this student/teacher relationship prepared Darren for the C.M.S.U. marching band along with several percussion ensembles and jazz bands; all the while, still seeking to advance in all areas of percussion with an emphasis on the drum set.  Darren became a teacher himself in 1988 and is still active in giving drum lessons.

Darren’s influences range from Kenny Aronoff (previously of John Cougar Mellencamp)
to Anton Fig (The Late Show w/ David Letterman).  However, his main influences are
Neil Peart (Rush) with Mike Sekelsky a close second.  His experiences include everything
in country music to original hard rock bands—of which one received a contract from
a well-known record label.  Most recently, Darren has been laying the groove for
Mind Carnival since October 1997.

Currently, I am using Yamaha drums with Zildjian cymbals (what else is there??)

All of the toms are what I call 'square'.  12" x 12"........14" x 14"..…..and so on.
The kicks are 24" x 26" and the snare is just amazing!!
The 'Z' cymbals are heavy and the 'K' series is fairly light......makes for a great Hi-hat combo.
