Advice from Students
on Coming to Brazil

Brazil's young people are wonderful, beautiful and full of life. If you get the chance, try to meet and talk with some of them while you are here--preferably in a non-party setting. Maybe drop in on a university or a private English school and arrange a time to come back and say hello. The following suggestions were written in English by some of my students, just for you. .......--Christopher

"When you come to Brazil you should be very happy because Brazilians are good people and receptive. You shouldn't take warm clothes because on the beaches the weather is very hot and the sea is good for swimming. If you go to Rio de Janeiro you have to be careful with assaults. You should go to the beaches and the historical cities. You have to go to parties because they are very exciting."
(Jefferson, age 15)

"Well, you are going to Brazil now, so you must be careful. It's a dangerous country and there are many thieves waiting for you. You can visit the Brazilian beaches. You shouldnīt talk with people you donīt know. You should eat typical foods. It's great! Each state has got it's own typical food."
(Thiago)

"It's your first time in Brazil, so Iīm going to give you some advice and you will not have problems. When you arrive you shouldnīt change much money in the airports and in hotels because the rate isnīt good. You should change just a little part of your money, enough to take a taxi and look for information about the best place to change more. Well, you shouldnīt go out with so much money because it could be very dangerous. We have different places to visit. We have beautiful beaches, historic cities, a lot of natural wonders like waterfalls, caves and parks, and you have many options to choose from. You should look for some information before you make the tour to enjoy your trip."
(Fernanda Antunes)

"You should visit the beautiful beaches in Bahia. You must know all types of our culture--the culture in Brazil is very rich and different. You have to visit the old cities of Minas Gerais because they are very beautiful and interesting."
(Lara, age 17)

"If you think you will travel in Brazil, you have to go to Rio de Janeiro. That is one of the most beautiful places here. If you prefer hotter places, you can go to the north of the country. But if you like the most delicious food, you should go to Minas Gerais. Now, if you donīt like meat or barbecue, you shouldnīt go to the south of Brazil."
(Flavia, age 17)
