Summary
of Experience
I
started my career in publishing by writing documentation
for Epson America, Inc. I drafted the users manual
for the Epson FX-80 dot-matrix printer in 1982 and then
took a job as a writer and editor with CompuSoft
Publishing, one of the first computer book publishing
companies in the states.
In
1983, I was hired by Megahaus Corporation, a consumer
software company, as their publications manager and was
responsible for all company publications from manuscript
to bound manuals. I also contributed to the company´s
marketing materials, brochures, pamphlets, and ads. One
of these Megahaus software manuals won third place in the
West Coast STC awards in 1984.
I
co-wrote my first book in 1983 for Prentice-Hall, called
Using 123 and the IBM PC. In the following years, I
completed over 15 computer books for such publishers as
Que, IDG Books, Sybex, Macmillan, Osborne and John Wiley.
Some of the titles include Using Excel for the
Macintosh (Que), The MacWorld Excel 5 Companion (IDG),
You Can Do It With Windows (IDG), and The HTML
Quick Reference (iUniverse).
In
1986 I started my own newsletter publishing company and
published several for-pay newsletters for the computer
industry, including The AppleWorks Journal and the
Microsoft Works in Education Newsletter, co-published
with Microsoft Corporation. During this time, I continued
to write books and magazine articles, including a cover
article for A+ magazine (a Ziff-Davis publication).
In
1994, I was invited to serve as literary agent for
Waterside Productions, Inc., the largest computer book
literary agency at the time. I represented a variety of
technical authors and my projects included many best
selling computer books, cookbooks and spiritual books. I
served as literary agent for eight years.
In
1999, I took my first trip to Brazil and during my
extended stay, co-wrote the book Poor Richards
Creating E-Books, published by Top Floor Publishing
in 2000. In 2004, I was contracted by Avalon Travel
Publishing to write Moon Handbooks Brazil, a
complete guide to Brazil with over 650 pages containing
maps, photos, travel listings, and side stories.
