Christopher Van Buren was born in Los Angeles, California (USA) and studied Fine Arts at the California State University in San Diego in 1980. His early works reveal his mastery in sketching and drawing in a classic style. During the 80s and 90s, Van Buren worked in the area of commercial graphic art and photography and studied the lithographic arts. During this time he also completed several designs for commercial packaging projects.
In 1999, Van Buren moved to Brazil and opened an atelier in Ouro Preto with fellow artist, Mauro Rocha. He began to experiment with painting styles that allowed him to capture different forms and perspectives with the flexibility to move through various degrees of abstraction. Today, his works impart a richness of color and texture in a mixture of abstract and fauve styles. His works appear in public and private collections throughout Brazil and internationally and can be found in the finest galleries in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Brasilia.
