Something To Think About~
Personal Message from Suze Curtis

Do you have passion in your life??   Could it be that we have no room for passion because we’re too full of worry & guilt?

Recently (& for the zillionth time). I experienced the “wonderful” feelings associated with the onset of a woman’s monthly cycle ~~ very lethargic, a desire to ”shut-down”, “hole-away”, regenerate, re-new.  For me (thank God), these “feelings” are only for the first 1-2 days.

It just so happened that I was scheduled to teach that same evening.  What if I had someone else teach in my place?

Very automatically (unconsciously), I began worrying about what my 7:15 p.m. (Thursday night) students would be thinking & feeling ~~ “We hardly ever see you on Thursday nights – I’m always missing your class – We hardly ever get to see you @ 7:15 p.m.”

And even more automatically (unconsciously), I felt guilty ~~ “My personal teaching schedule is already on the calendar that people pick up from the Studio – It’s already on the web-site calendar, too.”

“I will disappoint my students ~~ think of how they will feel.   I have published my schedule – they will think I’m undependable.”

By 3:00 p.m. that day, a blister had formed at the base of my tailbone ~~ whenever I put pressure on myself (ignoring/stuffing “MY” emotions) to do something I don’t want to do, my body finds a way to “let it out” ~~ relieve the pressure.

Blisters, in Louise Hay’s book, Heal Your Body, represent “Resistance.  Lack of emotional protection.”    Tailbone represents

“Out of balance with yourself.  Blame of Self.”

Interestingly, by “resisting by own emotions” and worrying more about how my students would feel, my OWN emotions were unprotected (I wasn’t even acknowledging them).

A few minutes later, I called one of my wonderful Transformers, Susan, and she and I traded ~~ She took my class for that evening.  As soon as I hung up the phone, the blister had already begun to disappear, and I felt an amazing “calm” go through my body.

I have taught COUNTLESS classes over the past 25 years ~~ no matter how I was feeling.  I was proud of the fact that I PUSHED THROUGH no matter how I was feeling.   My mind -- my “will” was always stronger – no matter how I was feeling.

When I look back over all those years, I realize that many times the constant “pushing through” resulted in subsequent:

a)       emotional & physical exhaustion,

b)      chronic aches & pains,

c)       desire to “hide away” (depression)

Of course, ALL of these “symptoms” STOPPED me ~~ gave me

permission to rest (albeit temporarily) ~~ reasoning that exhaustion & pain were legitimate . .  . and . . . to simply “not push through” ~~ to take a periodic break ~~  seemed (somehow) weak.

Tricia, our Harmonizer, has a wonderful way of putting it ~~

“Whenever I have that DEEP DOWN feeling that I just DO NOT want to do something, I go by the motto "First, do no harm." Which I interpret as "OK, who is this going to 'hurt' (including me) if I don't do it, and how much more complicated would my life become if I didn't do it right now".

I had the “First, do no harm” part down to a science ~~ or, at least, I thought I had.   I forgot the part about “(including me)”.

I literally FEEL others’ sadness, disappointment & pain ~~ and ~~ I have became very good at it . . . to the point that I completely lose touch with my own.

Simultaneously (upon Susan & I trading classes), I began to have insights & awarenesses (exciting, creative ideas) about many, many things ~~ they seemed to tumble into my mind so fast, as if they had been “dammed up” previously.

Could just recognizing & responding to MY OWN feelings have released the dam?

So many times I’ve heard people say “. . . they just don’t know what they want to do in life – they don’t know what would make them feel alive & passionate.”

Maybe it’s as simple as first “removing” (paying attention to & responding to / allowing) the “stuffed emotions” that have “dammed up” your inspirations and passions, ~~

Remember ~~ as soon as I “allowed” myself to take a night off, not only did the physical symptom (blister) disappear, but also my body relaxed (calmed) . . . and . . . ideas, passion, creativity flowed in!!

Be True To YourSELVES,

Suze ;-)
