2001 Race Schedule

All V/MYC sponsored races for the 2001 season are scheduled to be held at Lake Lavon with the exception of the New Skipper's Class and Race. Skippers' Meetings are scheduled before the first race of each series in the launch area of East Fork Park, 2 hours before the race begins.

Houston Mid-Winters

This historically exciting blue-water regatta will be held this year on February 24-25 in Galveston Bay. Several members attend this event each year to kick-off the racing season and experience the difference of sailing in blue water with tides and currents of which many of our lake-bound members are not accustomed to.

New Skippers' Class and Race

The V/MYC sponsors a class and races each year for members who are interested in learning and experiencing the rules and skills of racing. This year's event in March with a classroom session on Friday evening and races on Saturday morning at Lake Lavon on a date yet to be determined.

All new skippers taking the class are encouraged to bring their own boats to get the full benefit of learning the basics of racing. Experienced crew will be provided to join you on your boat to assist you in the skills of racing.

Spring Series

The first race each day is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM. with the second race beginning approximately 15-30 minutes after the last boat completes the first race.

2001 Spring Series Results

Dallas Race Week

This annual event at Chandler's Landing on Lake Ray Hubbard is scheduled this year from Sunday, June ?, through Friday, June ?. While not sponsored by V/MYC, this event historically attracts many members along with those from other yacht clubs throughout the metroplex. This series includes one race each evening beginning at 7:00 PM.

Summer Night Series

Each race is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM this year. This series is generally comprised of a more "leisurely" long distance (i.e. to the power plant and back) race followed by a raft-up after which some members frequently spend the night anchored in a cove for additional cruising on Sunday. The entry fee for the Summer Night Series is $15.00 due at the first race you attend.

2001 Fall Series Results

Lavon Challenge

This year's annual event at Collin Park Marina on Lake Lavon on Sunday, October ??? will be hosted by the Lavon Yacht Club. Come out and help us retain the Lavon Challenge Cup in competition with the Lavon Yacht Club. The points from the top five finishers from each club will be totaled to determine the winner of the cup. In addition to participants, we need volunteers to serve the victory meal and refreshments. Contact Al Barboza at (972) 270-1048 to register or to volunteer your assistance.
