| US Route 5 | |
US Route 5 runs for 311 miles; from New Haven, CT to the Canadian border at Derby Line, Vt. There are a total of 54.59 miles within Connecticut. US 5 is a great ride from Northampton, MA north through VT. It parallels I-91 and the Connecticut River, passing through many small towns along the way. So much to see and a break from the highway. If you plan on traveling I-91 north, I would suggest US 5 as a great way to relax and sample what New England has to offer. This photo was on our return trip from visiting the Franklin Pierce Homestead in New Hampshire, one of our Presidential Tour stops. The location was historic Deerfield, MA. Settled some 330 years ago, it now has 14 preserved homes with thousands of artifacts of early New England life from 1650 through the 1800s. |
