US Route 1

Rt 1 enters Connecticut in Greenwich and leaves in Stonington for a total of 117.37 miles in the state. It is part of the Boston Post Road.

It's confusingly signed east and west in some sections, which is true locally, but inconsistent with the big picture which is north and south from Fort Kent Maine to Key West Florida.

Rt 1 got its number in 1926 when it was formerly New England route 1 and was the main drag before I-95 came in.

This was our first picture on the AWSHIDT.  It was taken about 200 feet east of  the Hammonasset River on the Clinton/Madison CT town line (two of our required stops on the Presidential Tour).
