| "Let peace and prosperity be restored to the land. May God
bless this people: may God save the Constitution." -- Andrew Johnson 1875
The Johnson New York Post Office was my first Presidential stop of the day. I ran into a snag in that the Post Office does not have the name on the front. See my Sept. 21 page for more details.
Dates of Presidency: 4/15/1865 -
3/3/1869 Andrew Johnson was the first president to be impeached and was acquitted in the Senate by just one vote. |

| "The chief duty of government is to keep the peace and stand
out of the sunshine of the people." -- James A. Garfield 1869.

Dates of Presidency: 3/4/1881 -
9/19/1881 Garfield was the first left-handed president and could write Latin with one hand and Greek with the other. |

| "I
wish you to understand the true principles of the government. I wish them carried out. I
ask nothing more." -- William Henry Harrison, the last words spoken on his deathbed.
After finding the Post Office in Harrison, I realized there was no way to get the bike in the picture. After some searching in heavy traffic (if you want to know just how much heat the Concours engine puts out, try it in heavy traffic), I found this sign at a busy intersection and had to park on the sidewalk to get the photo. See my Sept. 21 page for more details.
Dates of Presidency: 3/4/1841 -
4/4/1841 Harrison was the first president to die in office. He served one month, the shortest term of any president. His grandson, Benjamin Harrison, became President in 1889. |

| Roosevelt, NJ | |
| "We shall strive for perfection. We shall not achieve it immediately - but we still shall strive. We may make mistakes - but they must never be mistakes which result from faintness of heart or abandonment of moral principle.." Franklin D. Roosevelt -- Fourth Inaugural Address, January 1945.
The Roosevelt NJ Post Office. I got there after closing so I was able to obtain a prime spot for the photo. See my Sept. 21 page for more details.
Dates of Presidency: 3/4/1933 - 4/12/1945
The only president to be elected four times. |
Roosevelt, NJ Post Office 9/21/01 "The town is named after Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR). Roosevelt was formed during the National Recovery Act (NRA). It was formed as a collective settlement to bring garment workers from New York and Philadelphia." |
