Living at the top....
While there are many good things about living in the village, it is not the same as making the final ascent to the top
of the mountain! There are good friends, good food and good people, but the view is much more spectacular at the top! This
analogy is similar to Dan's life. We have had many good experiences, we love each other and have a wonderful family that has supported
us over the years. But this does not take away our passion and desire to help Dan achieve a better life.
His life is really difficult. We were talking the other day and I was questioning Dan to see if he was willing to put in the effort needed
to achieve this goal. A feeling tells me that the China procedure will not be an easy fix, but rather a new window of opportunity to enable him to make
more progress. I was pressing Dan to see if he had the desire to do the work necessary to make the improvements needed. I was letting him know that it would be hard.... and he said, "Everything's hard.
Getting up in the morning is hard. Going to the bathroom is hard. Eating is hard. Going to bed is hard..." We anticipate that we will have to
do our part to make this final ascent, but we have hope that there will be a small improvement
and with that improvement we will be able to make a large difference in Dan's quality of life.
Just think-- a little more lip movement could mean the difference between un-intelligible speech and talking with clarity. Just a little more
functionality in the legs would help with walking and balance. Just as the climbers ascend the top of the mountains in stages, we believe we can
achieve great progress by small improvments. We also believe that the promise made long ago, to heal Dan can come to fruition.
We are ready to make the ascent....!
