Astarte- meaning "womb"
aka: Ashtoreth, Athtarath, Ishtar, Aphrodite
In the Old Testament of the Bible, as Ashtoreth, the name was mis-read, and became Athtarath- "shameful thing."

She was thought of as the spirit of sexuality, the goddess of fertility and also reproduction. She ruled the planet Venus. Baal,  was her brother/consort, in Phoenician myths.

She loved stallions, the first fruits of harvest, the firstborn of the womb, and all bloodless sacrifices. She is pictured naked on the back of a lioness with a lotus and mirror in one hand, two snakes in the other. The myth of the Goddess Isis is also related to Astarte.

Aphrodite

Origin: Greece, Cyprus
aka: Venus (Rome)

The Greek goddess of love and passion, as well as jealousy, doves, swans, and geese were her companions. She was depicted as riding upon a goose in many statues, she was the original "mother goose."

Born from the severed genitals of Uranus that were tossed into the sea, Aphrodite is also goddess of animals. She wore a magic girdle which would disarm any man or god who threatened her. Similar to the Demeter/Persephone myth, both Aphrodite and Persephone fell in love with Adonis, and had to share him... it is said while Adonis was in the underworld with Persephone, it was wintertime, and with his return to Aphrodite, came sunshine.

Her sacred flower is the red anemone.
