Coven Questions

 These questions will help you out when looking for a coven. Think of the answers yourself, then see how your potential coven fits your ideals.

* How many levels of degree are in the inner circle, on average?

* What is your ideal size, and is hiving off an option?

* What tradition is focused on -are the same deities invoked every time?

* Do you have by-laws/ a coven compact? How was it put together- democratic- hierarchically?

* What is ritual dress? Robes vs. street clothes

* Are rituals read or memorized?

* How are magickal requests handled?

* Is there an attendance policy—what level of participation is expected?

* Who are the leaders of the coven (HP/s) How were they 'elected'?

* Is there a length of office (for any office, including HP/s)?

* What other offices are held, and are their duties outlined in the by-laws/ coven compact?

* Are you connected with any national or regional organizations (CoG)?

* Do members use craft names outside of circle?

v How is identity handled for "in the broom-closet" Witches? (classes)

* Is there a process in place to handle potential conflict?

* Has anyone left the coven? If it isn't confidential, why?

* Do you accept self-initiation – would I be reinitiated as Witches, or just into their particular tradition? (are there classes tailored to this)

* What distinguishes the inner circle from the outer circle—esbats, sabbats, classes, decision-making, attendance?

* About how many coven activities are scheduled for each month?

* Are there any dues/fees for the coven? How much?

* Do you have a policy on admitting both spouses into the circle?
