         therein named where upon Leonard BALLOW heir at Law to the
         Decident was Ordered be Sumd to next Court &c Court of May 12 1748

Jul 16 - Leonard BALLOW Heir at Law to Leonard BALLOW Dec’d having been
         Duly Sumoned was this day called to know if he hath Any Objection
         why the Writing formerly produced in this Court as the last Will
         &c of his said Father should not be Admitted to record who Appears
         by William Battersby his Attorney and files his Caveat wherein he
         saith the said Writing Ought not to be Recorded as his Fathers
         will by reason of the Erasements Obliterations and Alterations
         thereon without the Consent of the said Decedent in his Life, but
         of Sinister and Vile Practice since his Death and further for that
         the said Will is In sufficent in Law Whereupon the Executrix in
         the said Will named comes and denies all the Facts above Alledged:
         Wherefore She prays the said Will may be Admitted to Record It is
         Ordered The Aforesaid Heir at Law do Immediately proceed to make
         Out his Objections from which Order the Aforesaid Leonard BALLOW
         (Heir at Law) moves for an Appeal to the General Court which is
         granted on his giving Bond & Security &c but the Aforesaid Leonard
         BALLOW comes into Court and agrees to wave his Appeal Ordered that
         debate be refer’d for farther argument till next Court and that it
         be put first on the Docket that it may be Peremptorily Argued

Aug 10 - This Indenture made the Tenth day of August 1765 between William
         Allegre of County of Albemarle of the one part and Elizabeth
         Battersby & Thomas BALLOW both of the County of Buckingham on the
         other part. Witnesseth that said William Allegre for sum of Five
         shillings and in performance of the Condition of a Bond made to
         William Battersby after the Intermarriage of the said William
         Allegre with Jane the daughter of the said Battersby, and now Wife
         of the said William Allegre & for divers other good causes hath
         sold unto said Elizabeth Battersby & Thomas BALLOW their heirs,
         one Negro slave called Sambo on the Condition of the aforesaid
         Bond as is herein aftr mentioned, that is to say, that the said
         Negro slave shall by said Elizabeth Battersby & Thomas BALLOW be
         employed & disposed of for the behoof of said Allegres wife Jane
         during her Life, and afterwards to her Issue or Heirs, and said
         Allegre doth agree that he will warrant & defend the said slave to
         said Elizabeth Battersby & Thomas BALLOW for the st William

         Bedford County of the one part & George Kippin & Compy. Merchts.
         of Glasgow of the other part Witnesseth that said Leonard BALLOWE
         Senr. & Leonard BALLOWE junr. his Son for the sum of Two hundred &
         eighty pounds Currt. money hath sold unto said Geo. Kippin & Co.
         their heirs forever Four hundred acres of land in the County of
         Albemarle on the James River, One hundred and fifty acres of the
         above being the same left by Thos. Golesby deced to Joanah BALLOWE
         Wife of the said Leonard BALLOWE & the same land he the said
         Leonard BALLOWE Senr. doth make over to the said Kippin & Co. two
         Negroes Vozt. one Man named George and one Woman named Jean & the

         BALLOW for sum of Forty five pounds Ten Shillings Virginia
         Currency to him in hand paid by George Rippin & Co. by these
         presents doth bargain and sell unto George Rippin & Co. their
         heirs one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the
         County of Albemarle and containing One hundred and nineteen acres
         be the same more or less being the same land granted to Leonard
         BALLOW by Patent from Wiliamsburg bearing date the Twentieth day
         of August One thousand seven hundred and Forty eight and also all
         the Right title and Interest of said Thomas BALLOW in said tract
         of land and Thomas BALLOW shall warrant and forever defend
         Provided Always and it is agreed between the parties to these
         presents that if said Thomas BALLOW his heirs shall pay or cause
         to be paid unto said George Rippin & Co.  the aforementioned sum
         on or before the first day of July next Insuing the date of these
         presents that then from thenceforth this present Indenture shall
         be null and void notwithstanding anything to the contrary
         contained therein but after default shall be made then this
         Indenture to take place according to the true intent and meaning
         thereof  In Witness whrerof said Thomas BALLOW hath hereunto set
         his hand and affixed his Seal the day and year first above written

Apr 08 - This Indenture made the Eighth day of April in the year of our
         Lord one thousand seven hundred and Sixty eight Between Leonard
         BALLOWE Senr. of County of Albemarle and Jane BALLOWe his Wife of
         the one part and William Cox of County of Albemarle of the other
         part Witnesseth that for sum of three hundred pounds Virginia
         currency to said Leonard BALLOWE in hand paid by said William Cox
         by these presents doth bargain and sell unto William Cox and his
         heirs the following tract of land containing in the whole Four
         hundred acres be the same more or less lying and being in County
         of Albemarle on North side of James River; one tract containing
         One hundred and fifty acres being the same said Leonard BALLOWE
         got by his said Wife, Johanna BALLOWE, by a Deed made to the said
         Johanna by her Father, Thomas Goolsbee, bearing date the Fifteenth
         day of July in year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and
         Forty which deed is recorded in Goochland County; also one other
         tract of land containing fifty acres joining the former being
         the same said Leonard BALLOWE purchased of Thomas Goolsbee by a
         Deed record to him in Albemarle County from the said Goolsbee
         bearing date the Ninth day of October in the year of our Lord
         One thousand seven hundred and forty six and bounded Beginning at
         a Spanish Oak on the River bank thence running on the River to a
         white Hickory, from thence running cross the low grounds to the
         back line, thence down said line to a red Oak and from thence to
         the River to the place it begun at; Also one other tract of land
         containing Two hundred acres granted to said Leonard BALLOWe by
         Patent from Williamsburg bearing the third day of March one
         thousand seven hundred and Sixty, Together with all houses fences
         water courses and all other appurtenances whatsoever belonging to
         have and to hold the aforesaid tract of land and every of their
         appurtenances unto William Cox his heirs and Leonard BALLOWE and
         Jane BALLOWE his Wife their heirs shall warrant and forever defend

May 12 - This Indenture made the Twelfth day of May in the year of our Lord
         One thousand seven hundred and seventy two between William Cox of
         the County of Albemarle and Eliza: Cox his Wife of the one part
         and Thomas Hughes of the County of Buckingham of the other part;
         Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of Three hundred
         pounds Virginia currency to the said Wm. Cox...being the same
         (land) that Leo. BALLOWE got by his Wife, Johanna BALLOWE...and
         (land) being the same Leo. BALLOWE purchased of Thomas Goolsbie...
         and (land) granted to Leo. BALLOWE by Patent...Wm. Cox and Eliza
         Cox his Wife doth agree...their heirs the above land and premises

Aug 11 - These indenture made this Eleventh day of August one thousand
         seven hundred and seventy three between Thomas BALLOWE and Anna
         his wife of Albemarle County of  one part and Joseph Upton of said
         County of other part. Witnesseth that Thomas BALLOWE and Ann his
         Wife for Forty pounds current money hath granted unto Joseph Upton
         and to his heirs one certain parcell of Land containing One
         hundred and nineteen acres being in County of Albemarle be the
         same more or less which said that of One hundred and nineteen
         acres was granted unto Leonard BALLOW by Pattent at Williamsburg
         bearing date the Twentieth day of August one thousand seven
         hundred & Forty eight being in County of Albemarle on the North
         side of the Fluvanna & bounded ... Begining at a corner Pine of
         Jno. Lewises & running with his line North West to a corner white
         Oak of said Lewises, the same Course continued to a white Oak,
         Northwest to a white Oak, Southwest to a white Oak, Southwest to a
         Pine, Southwest to pointers in Mathew Jordans line, thence with
         his line South East to his corner Dogwood in Thomas Goolsby's
         line, thence with his line Northeast to the begining, with all
         woods ways and all other appurtenances belonging; To have and to
         hold the said Tract of One hundred and nineteen acres of Land with
         their appurtenances unto Joseph Upton his heirs and Thomas BALLOW
         and Ann his Wife for themselves their heirs the above sold land to
         Joseph Upton his heirs against them their heirs and all other
         persons will by these presents warrant & forever defend; In
