Since publishing this page Oct 1998, I have certainly wondered about visitors to the page.  Brian Madaris, a Medaris "cousin" and mentor for my genealogical web page effort, was kind and generous enough to build this guest book for me!  I publicly Thank him!

I respect your privacy and wish to say that you may fill in as much information as your comfort level permits, with my assurance that I will not sell or otherwise use or abuse information given on this page!

Thank You for visiting!  Gwen Edmonds

I am having a bit of a problem with the "submit" button on the current guestbook.  Until I can get this "submitting" problem solved, please email me  gedmonds@bigplanet.com  and include as much of the following information as you desire.  I will then place the info in the Guest Book "by hand".  Also, if you have submitted in the recent past and do not see yourself in the guestbook, please send it again.  gve

COMMENTS:  Seeking info on David A. BELEW b.abt.1864 - d.abt.1937. My reason for seeking info. on Belew's is that a D. A. Belew was a witness to the marriage of my Grandparents in Reed, Greer Co. Oklahoma in 1910. I found a David A. Belew that is buried there. My Grandparents name was RITCHIE, and have not found any Ritchie's that are his family in that area. This Belew was much older than my grandfather, so I thought maybe he could be a stepfather or an uncle, just not sure. I know there wasn't any BELEW"S on my grandmothers side. If Anyone can connect theses BELEW,S and RITCHIE'S, please contact me. Thank you.

Belew Connection:  I am descended from Solomon Belew of Orange County VA (Solomon>James
Webb>Newton>Jeremiah>Leonard>Doras>Susannah). Solomon served as a wagoneer in the
Revolution, was at Valley Forge.  There is some evidence that Solomon was the son of Peter
Belew/Ballieu, as a Solomon is named in Peter's will and matches approximately the right generational age.  Who precedes Peter, however, is a mystery!  There is some thought that this line descended from Maturin Ballew but we cannot find the transition point from NJ to VA.  Hopefully those of us with a similar goal can sort this all out!

COMMENTS: I was told by family that one of our ancestors,  a Mary Ballow, came over from England with two sons.  They went to Canada, then the two boys ended up in the States.  One of the boys, I believe,  was named Macklin, or Robert Macklin Ballow.  I am hoping someone will read this and have information on these ancestors.  Richard

Her name was Mahala Blue (Bellew, Ballew, etc). She married Miles Jordan who served in NC line in American Revolution. Her family may have been from Pee Dee river area, possibly near Miles' family.  They relocated to GA.

COMMENTS: My father is Daniel Lynn Ballew, born 1949, Copperhill, TN.  His father was Ham Tedo Ballew, of McCaysville, GA.  His father was Jesse James Ballew, A Baptist preacher at Hot House Baptist Church, Mineral Bluff, GA.  He had a son who was named Jack, and that's all I remember, and 2 daughters named Polly and Hootie?, I'm not sure, but I think he had a brother or son named Otto.  Anyway, I just thought I would share this info with you.  Thanks, Jamie

COMMENTS:  Terrific webpage.  I have KY Ballew ancestors also.  I've included some  source information for John Ballew, my 4th great grandfather.  This is the  John Ballew who married Margaret Garrett in Madison Co., KY in 1810.  He was probably born in North Carolina abt 1788 (although his death record says TN) and died in Greenup Co., KY in 1857.  I have not determined who his parents are, although there are a number of Ballews in Madison/Garrard Co. in the early 1800s who are likely related.

COMMENTS:  My Grand Dad told us stories that years ago our family name was Williamson and unfortunately were horse thieves and had to change the name while running from the law. I was never very proud of this story but was curious to know if anyone out there had heard a similar story. All the family I know are from Texas...I am glad to see your dedication to the family name. My g-grandfather was Langston "Green" Ballew, 4th child and 2nd son of  Daniel.  b. 26 June 1834, SC; d. 20 June 1910 in Oak Grove, Bowie, TX.  He married Mary Ann Penland, 11 May 1839, AL, d. 25 Sept 1890. My grandfather was Lowery Houston "Huse" Ballew, 17 Feb 1871, GA,  d. 5 Dec 1939 in Point, TX.
My father is Roy Ernest Ballew, 23 July 1904 -- still living.

COMMENTS: Gwen,  I just located your site through a random internet search and wanted to tell you about my dad's family's cemetary, located in Nebo, North Carolina (McDowell County).  The cemetary is called Ballew Cemetary and is located at Nebo United Methodist Church.  The cemetary is so named because its land was donated to the church many years ago by my grandfather, W. Jay
Ballew.   Buried there are my grandparents (W. Jay Ballew and Alice Belle Hunter Ballew), 3 of my uncles (John Ballew, William Ballew, and Robert Harry Ballew), one of which, John, was killed at the age of 20 in World War II, and several cousins.  There are some interesting inscriptions on the
older graves, but I haven't written them down.  If I find out what they are, I'll pass them along to you.  I'm very interested in Ballew family history and would love to hear what you know about other Ballews, especially from North Carolina.  I hope you find this information helpful.
Thanks.  Sincerely, Meredith Hunter Ballew
