         John Balleu* "nothing found"**
*It is possible this may not be "Balleu." The letters "Balle" were
well formed, but both lines of the letter "u" extended straight
upward much higher than is normal for a "u". However, it was not
an 'n" and the lines definitely did not look like a double "l" --
they were completely different from the "ll" in the earlier part
of the name and from other "lls" on the page and the upward lines
did not go as high as the other "ls". There were no other names in
the records remotely resembling Ballell.  Robert Y. Clay also
looked at the name and agreed "Balleu" was the most likely
         interpretation.
**This was one of a few "nothing found" entry.  Other entries on
the insolvent list stated "runaway," "no effects found," or "moved
away." I assume this means that John Balleu was missing and nobody
knew where he could be found.
