         from Moses White on Pacelot Waters.  The land was part of a two
         tracts granted to John Gowen in 1791, then owned by Nathan Morgan
         and Thomas Roper, then by Moses White who left to move out of this

1893:
Mar 22 - Trial of Isaac Ballew for murder of Thomas Lindsey.
                  Prosecutor was A.H. Dean; Earle & Mooney represented defendant.
         Testimony of Dr. W.A. Mooney re position of Lindsey when he was
         shot. Fleming Lindsey, 14 son of dead man, testified he met his
         father at foot of Glassy Mountain, with an extra ox to help pull
         the wagon. Ballew, on horseback, overtook them and Lindsey asked
         him if he had killed any more of his hogs. Ballew said he never
         killed any. Lindsey threatened to pull Ballew off his horse and
         threw a rock after him when he road away...heard Ballew cussin
         with his father who was then in the wagon but got out and told
         Ballew to go away. Ballew accused him of throwing the rock;
         Lindsey took up his gun when Ballew fired and ran off down the
         road...Ballew shot Lindsey. Verdict of not guilty.

         of $3000 paid by Robert Ballew a piece of land lying on Tugulo
         River adj lands of David Humphries, Allen Elston, and James
         Bedford, granted to Robert Moss Campbell and Tate Phere Shelton
         containing 640 acres, adj corner of survey made for Aaron Smith
         thence by Allen Elstons land, James Bedfords land, David

         Aaron Ballew, native of Union District, SC, born Nov 25, 1825,
         son of Samuel & Mary (Bryant) Belew. Samuel was son of Zachariah
         soldier in the Revolution.  Aaron was the 3rd of 14 children:
         Zachariah, Monroe, Aaron, Giles, John, Brown, Governor, Louisa,
         Elizabeth, Caroline, Hannah, Ginsey, Tennessee, & Harvey.
         Aaron married Mary Jane Belew, daughter of Zachariah & they had
         7 children: Elizabeth, Samuel, John, Polly Ann, Scotia, Tennessee,
         & Levi.  They came to Texas in 1856.
