Dinner at DSAT
Top of Page
Having a hard time getting the kids fed before the meeting? Starting
this month,
we will open the Special
Olympics Building (click here for map) at 6:30pm to allow
time for families to chat and eat dinner around table together. This
is NOT a pot-luck dinner
so bring food for your own crew and enjoy a relaxing dinner
in the company
of other families.
MOSAIC DOWN SYNDROME

Do you know anyone who has a child with Mosaic Down Syndrome?
Kelley and Candy Pyle would like to visit with them. The Pyle’s
son was just
diagnosed. Please give them a call at 835-6857.
UNO MAS Top

Anyone interested in the cute T-shirts and rompers that were shown
at the
September meeting? You can purchase them on the web at UNO MAS
or
call 909-677-0598. This is the same organization that is raising
money for
Bradley Bevel, so check out the web site for Christmas gifts.
Also, they will
be sending 50 bumper stickers which will sell for $1.00 each.
Their goal is to
raise $1000.00 for Bradley and then find another child with Down Syndrome
who is experiencing medical difficulties and continue the project.
It is a worthy
cause, so show them our support!
NEED A BREAK?

Fall Respite is a great opportunity for you and a friend (or even your
spouse)
to get out and kick up your heels! There are now several respite
services to
choose from:
Boston Avenue Methodist Church is offering child care on
the second and
fourth Fridays of each month, from 6:30pm to 11:00pm. They have
a wonderful
facility with separate rooms for each age group, and tons of
toys and activities.
DSAT has formed a partnership with them and is providing funding, so
let’s put
our dues to good use! For more information call Marilyn
LaPointe at 371-2279.
Church of the Shepherd has a respite care night as well.
It is on the third Friday
of each month for kids K-5th grade. Contact the church at 836-7503
for more
information.
Cathedral of Praise in Sand Springs has established a respite
program.
Contact Karen Derryberry, Intake Social Worker, 561-1305.
Respite for Creek County residents:
Garfield Center School, 801 N. 9th
Sapulpa, OK 74066
Contact: Karla Putnam 224-9366
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

On Saturday, September 26, many of
our kids got together at Woodward park
to have a little fun, and also get the opportunity to be a T.V. star!
Lori Blankenship worked very hard to get us a television spot
for a public
service announcement celebrating Down Syndrome Awareness. The
piece should
air in about a week or so. We will update you in the next newsletter.
SPACE NEEDED
Top of Page
The Special Olympics Building is where we are meeting, but DSAT does
not
own any part of the facility. We have pamphlets and new parent
packets as well
as information we distribute at conferences and meetings, goodies for
the kids,
and holiday stuff. Some of our members have been kind enough
to store these items
in their homes, but would enjoy the thought of not having to move them
every time they
want to get to the ice-cream freezer, fishing poles, or whatever else
is in the closet.
If you have access to extra space that is conveniently located near
our meeting l
ocation, please contact Andrea Eden at 224-8171.
FOR BABIES WITH DOWN SYNDROME

Now is a great time to purchase a Babies With Down Syndrome book in
honor of someone you love. The book will go to a new family with
a Down
Syndrome child.
We also now have a pamphlet available for placement in doctor’s offices,
hospitals, etc. It contains current medical and health
information and is positive
in its portrayal of raising a child with Down Syndrome.
For information on either of the above, contact Kim Wofford at 622-6906.
Little Light House
Top of Page
On October 10, many of our kids participated in MINI-LAPS, a
fund-raiser for
The Little Light House. The kids asked their friends and family
members to sponsor
them in a lap around a specially designed track at school. It
was an exciting time for
our kids to “cross the finish line a winner” and receive a gold
medal for their efforts.
The Little Light House is committed to remaining tuition-free.
If you are interested
in this opportunity, they offer a tour of the facility so check it
out!
HERE COMES SANTA!

The DSAT Christmas Party will be Satuday, December 5, 2:00pm
at the Special Olympics Building.
Mr. and Mrs. Santa will be there with presents for the kids.
This is a great “photo op”!
Bring a snack and enjoy the fun and games.
Thank You!
